Speaking of velvet mini skirts (as seen on Sarah Jessica Parker in our feature yesterday), if you’re in the market for a new one to wear for fall, here are two options for you – one an affordable piece from American Apparel, the other a more upscale version from Theory. The funny thing is the two look very similar. In fact, you could say one is a knock-off version of the other. Both are short, both flowy, both shirred, both navy, and both perfect for wearing with tights and booties.

Check ‘em out below:

As you can see, there are minor differences. For instance, the piece from American Apparel is a little longer than the one from Theory. And for another, it is also more blue compared to Theory’s grayish navy blue. Other than that however, both can give you the same look. So the question is which would you rather grab? The USD38 knock-off or the USD225 skirt from Theory?

Before you answer that question, allow us to give you one more bit of information. The American Apparel velvet skirt also comes in three (3) other colors – black, green, and red. Now if you buy all four (4), that would cost you a total of USD152, still much less than the USD225 you’ll spend for a Theory. Given this information, would you now pick the American Apparel over the Theory?

So which is it?

If you have the money and you still want the Theory Waloma skirt, simply purchase it via Nordstrom. Now if it’s the American Apparel Velvet Mini you prefer, that one can be purchased through Amazon. Enjoy!
